11 members met to play...Joan, Paula, Len and Dody, Janice, Ray, Molly, Sarah, John, Hiroko and Charles.
We used our usual warm-up/ intonation study to get going, and then returned to two pieces from November's material:
Regnart's Nach Meine Lieb
Ivo de Vento's Die Weiber mit den Flohen
After that we played through the set of Monteverdi pieces that were handed out in December, but which we had not played that month.
Finally we returned to the Gabrieli Sonata Pian e Forte which we worked on in December.
As part of the month's business Sarah asked members to sign up and pay for books we talked about working from. Everyone has ordered either the Bernstein 5 voice, or the 4 voice, volume named on our earlier email. The copies will be ordered and we hope to have them to hand out next month at the playing session. We resolved to use the books as a stable part of each meeting, and I will provide additional material which I hope to be able to send out ahead of time if we can get it better timed and organized than we did in December.
We talked about using the material from each month over again with the goal of being able to play from it at performances. The hope is that we will play at least one public performance in March to celebrate Play the Recorder month.
In February we will play the Monteverdi and Gabrieli material again, and add numbers 6 and 11 from the Bernstein 5 voice book. There may be other pieces either old or new, so plan to bring your binder full of the year's material to date, and the Bernstein books if you already have them.
Players who were absent are urged to remember to bring previously presented material each month, and to keep playing it, so we have something to build on.
We also decided to hold one additional Playing Session on the 3rd Saturday in June at the usual time and place, and to bring a sandwich/potluck-dessert lunch to share after playing. You are all
encouraged to get together in small sub groups before then to prepare a duet/trio/etc to share at that meeting in an informal concert.
